Drum Classes by Dean Classes are held Fridays 6pm - 8pm Starting November 7th 2008
Come join our new class on hand drumming starting soon. Dean Kisling has been a practicing musician for 50 years. His musical experience includes accordian, violin, drums, harmonica, old time banjo and jazz guitar. He has performed professionally as a solo guitarist, in a guitar/violin jazz duet and as the percussionist for the Celtic group, Queen Mab.
In 1992 Dean rekindled an interest in percussion and began learning congas, djembe and dumbek. In 1998 he began teaching drum classes for kids and adults in the Eastern Sierra region of California. From 1998 to 2005 he taught and directed an amateur drum ensemble called "The Rhythm Method" which played at over 100 events, including craft fairs, festivals, teen centers, civic events, parties, and even a wedding. In 2004 they were the opening act at Millpond Music Festival. In 2007 and 2008 Dean was the drummer for the Flying Camel Belly Dance group in Baker Oregon.
"What I love about drumming is that it is something people can participate in without having to be a highly trained musician. Everyone has rhythm inside them. When people get together and drum, and that drumming moves other people to start dancing - it is one of the most satisfying things one can do in life. It makes people feel good. It makes them more aware of belonging to human community. I am really pleased and excited to find Ziva's Dance Studio open to and enthusiastic about promoting drumming here in Hanover."
If the beat of the drum moves you, join us at Ziva's and share it with others.
